Children are a heritage from the Lord.

The Gospel Story for Kids Curriculum for the Children’s Ministry at RPC

The Children’s Ministry at RPC has relied on the solid, biblical curriculum of Great Commission Publications for many years. However, over the past year, I have been introduced to a new children’s curriculum that will accomplish many of the goals we have for the Children’s Ministry. For more information concerning our Children’s Ministry, please contact Sallye Lucas, CM Director at .

Our motto is Growing in Jesus through His Word.
We want to introduce children to Christ and his promises of salvation in his word. Many parents are looking for resources to make their devotional time at home rich for their children; some may have a well-defined plan, but others are looking for guidance. I believe that the Gospel Story curriculum will accomplish our purpose, reflect our motto, and give a much-needed resource to families.

Here are some benefits of this new curriculum:
It takes the children through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation every three years, each time through growing deeper in biblical teaching.

All the children, age three through fifth grade, will be studying the same Bible passage each week. This allows for parents to reinforce the Bible lessons with the whole family during family devotions. The Children’s Ministry will provide a devotion book that expands on the lesson five days of the week.

The curriculum includes bible memory verses (Sword Memory Verses). All the children will learn the same passages. Again, this allows families to be focused on the same memory work together. In addition, Wednesday nights will be a great way to reinforce the Bible lessons with an application and review the Sword Memory Verses.

The New City Catechism for Kids

The New City Catechism for Kids is a modern-day resource aimed at teaching the core doctrines of the Christian faith to children ages 4–11. This 64-page booklet contains each of the 52 easy-to-understand questions and short answers found in The New City Catechism designed to help children understand who God is and what he has done. With answers that are short enough for children to read, understand, and memorize.

There is also an app you can download on your phone or tablet. NCC

Learning to Worship

The children four to fifth grade gather in classroom three for the first 10 minutes of Sunday School to learn the children’s hymn and to discuss it’s meaning. There is prayer time for the Sunday School teachers, the children’s hearts as they are being taught and Pastor Matt as he will be opening the Word up to the congregation through the power of the Holy Spirit. Children’s worship bulletins are provided in the narthex of the sanctuary. Typically the content reflects Pastor Matt’s sermon. To continue to help the children follow along in the worship service Pastor Matt leads the children in a children’s sermon.

Children’s Mission’s Opportunities

The Children’s Ministry (CM) promotes Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. Donations are collected throughout the year and the children pack boxes in November to be sent throughout the world.

During January, for Souper Bowl of Caring, children collect cans of soup for the needy.

Throughout the year the children bring in items to be placed in The Storehouse basket to help underprivileged families in Henderson County. At Christmas, the children get to adopt a child with their family from The Storehouse’s Blessings in Boxes program to give a child Christmas gifts whom wouldn’t otherwise have any.

Throughout the year, our children are given the opportunity to create cards and give pillows Stuffed with Love to encourage people in the church and community who may be sick or who may need some encouragement. If you would like to learn more about the Stuffed with Love ministry contact Sallye.

Nursery

A nursery is provided for infants – three years of age during the morning worship service. Four-year-olds are encouraged to attend the worship service with their families. After the children’s sermon, if your two to three-year-old children are training to sit in worship, they may go to the Walker nursery at this time. A nursery is also provided for infants through two years of age during Sunday School and infants through three-year-olds during Wednesday night programs. If you would like to volunteer in the nursery at any time, please contact Sallye.

C.A.M.P.

C.A.M.P. is our catechism and memory program. This Memory Work program includes verses and catechisms to memorize. All children and one guardian who complete the memory work for the year will earn a special kid’s outing.

This year the memory work program coincides with our Sunday school curriculum, Marty Machowski’s The Gospel Story Curriculum for Kids. There are 18 verses or passages that the children will learn depending on their ages. At the end of May, each family should have memorized the first nine. In addition to scripture memory, the children will be given a group of catechism questions to memorize and recite OT books and NT books depending on age group.

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to pass on the gospel to children. This program allows churches and families to work together. Give children the gift of enduring truth.
